Protocol for Patients with an ear wax problem
Ormeau Park Surgery will no longer be offering ear syringing due to risk of perforation.
Please find below a list of options available to you.
Recommend Otex Express Combi Pack, or Exterol peroxide drops, or similar or olive oil from the chemist to soften the wax.
If a patient feels they have a problem with wax they will need an appointment with the Doctor to confirm it is a wax problem and not a perforation. This appointment will not result in ear syringing.
If a patient wishes to have their ears syringed, they can contact private suppliers, for example Lisburn Hearing Centre – 92640302, or Kerrsland Surgery - 90296600 or Hidden Hearing, 54 High Street, Belfast, 90313330 (the service at Hidden Hearing is free if you are over 55 years of age, £50 to persons under 55 years of age).
